Judge to rule Monday on bid for stay of magistrate’s court charge against Singh, Brassington

Justice Franklyn Holder is expected to rule on Monday on the application made by former Minister of Finance, Dr Ashni Singh and former Head of the National Industrial and Commercial Investments Limited (NICIL), Winston Brassington, to stay the Magistrate’s Court from proceeding with charges of alleged misconduct in public office against them.

Local input at Aurora gold mine relatively high – managers

Local content is relatively high in the operations of the Canadian-owned Aurora Gold Mines  (AGM) with most of its senior managers, contractors and sub-contractors being Guyanese and the majority of its purchases being local says its senior managers on the Cuyuni River site.

Sawmills to demonstrate best cutting methods at timber expo

This weekend’s Guyana Timber Expo will focus on the use of lesser known wood species as well as how best to cut them, the Guyana Forestry Commission (GFC) said at the launching of the three-day event yesterday afternoon.

DPP recommends single PI for three accused in money changer murder

The Chambers of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has advised that the Preliminary Inquiry (PI) which began against two men charged with the murder of America Street moneychanger Shawn Nurse, aka “Fabulous”, be discontinued and a joint case be held to accommodate a third suspect charged for the said crime.

‘This isn’t about ‘Fineman’

Mining camp owner George Arokium yesterday maintained his belief that it was unlikely that the Rondel ‘Fineman’ Rawlins gang killed eight miners, including his brother and son, at Lindo Creek in 2008, due to the level of security in the area at time.
