Owners still to pay fine for undeclared fuel on detained boat

More than a week after being seized by the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) with 200,000 gallons of undeclared fuel aboard, the MT Jubilee remains in custody while the owners work  with customs authorities to pay the $36 million in outstanding taxes, according to Commissioner-General, Godfrey Statia.

Delinquent gov’t officials face surcharge for overpayments, incomplete works

As part of efforts to curb overpayments on contracts, which have plagued state agencies for years, government has informed officials that those who sign off on incomplete contracts will be surcharged and have their names published in the annual reports of the Auditor General (AG), according to a Treasury Memorandum laid in the National Assembly last Thursday.

Family of Uitvlugt labourer says evidence points to murder

The family of Sunil Mangra, the Uitvlugt Estate labourer whose body was discovered at the Stewartville seashore, West Coast Demerara (WCD) last Monday, believes that he was murdered and is calling for a thorough investigation by police after what it has described as a lackluster approach so far.

Suspect in 150-lb ganja find nabbed in Berbice

A charge is expected to be laid this week against a man linked to the recent discovery of 150 pounds of marijuana, which were found two weeks ago in a car abandoned in front of the Royal Castle outlet on Sheriff Street, George-town.

CJIA expansion on track

Even as he sought to assure taxpayers yesterday that they are getting value for money on the US$150 million Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) expansion project, Minister of Public Infrastructure David Patterson said an additional $346.5 million in supplementary funding is being sought for to see the project to completion.
