Canada reaffirms support for Guyana’s sovereignty

Global Affairs Canada today issued the following statement: “Canada has been closely monitoring recent developments following the consultative referendum on the Essequibo region that took place in Venezuela on December 3, 2023, and has been deeply concerned by growing tensions in the territorial dispute between Venezuela and Guyana.

Work underway on Argyle Declaration

The persons who will form the joint commission to be established under the Declaration of Argyle for Dialogue and Peace between Guyana and Venezuela are in the process of being selected, as Takuba Lodge hailed Thursday’s meeting in St Vincent and the Grenadines as “mutually beneficial.”

Journalist, Travis Chase, through his attorney-at-law, Nigel Hughes, has written to the Commissioner of Police, Clifton Hicken requesting an apology for allowing video recordings of Chase’s consultation with his lawyer, when he (Chase) visited the police to hand over his weapon for testing as was requested and also for those recordings to be deleted in their presence.

Biker, pillion rider die in Diamond accident

Police are investigating a fatal accident which occurred at around 23:20 hrs last night on the Diamond Access Road, East Bank Demerara, which claimed the lives of two persons, motorcyclist Ashton Mc Curdy and his pillion rider Mark Green.

Guyana and Venezuela pledge no use of force

-Joint Commission to be set up, any controversies to be resolved under international law Guyana and Venezuela yesterday agreed not to use force against each other in any circumstance, a key development for Georgetown in the light of months of tension over Caracas’ staging of a referendum on Essequibo and its subsequent decision to annexe the county which makes up five-eights of this country.
