Mayor’s son shot, robbed

The son of Mayor of Georgetown Patricia Chase-Green was early yesterday morning shot and robbed by a lone gunman while imbibing at a shop at Pouderoyen, West Bank Demerara (WBD).

Suspects held in year-old Rose Hall murder

Two persons including the alleged triggerman in the more than one year old murder of Rose Hall resident Caitanya Kishundyal were arrested by the police on Friday evening and they have since admitted their involvement in the crime which they said was an intended robbery.

Region Seven residents concerned over land ownership CoI

Residents of twelve indigenous villages in Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) expressed concern about the establishment of a Commission of Inquiry (CoI) into Land Ownership, when they met recently to discuss issues affecting their land rights, as well as to renew their commitment to pursuing full territorial rights for the indigenous people in the region.

The dog barked and resisted as his owner took him into the store and after a kiss on his mouth she left as he tugged at his leash seemingly with the intention of following her, but he was soon scooped up and comforting words were said in his ear as he settled contentedly on the inviting lap.

Civil aviation bill for select committee scrutiny

The government’s Civil Aviation Bill was on Thursday evening sent to a special select committee but not before both sides of the National Assembly argued over the proposed legislation and left Speaker Dr Barton Scotland questioning the point of the decision.

SASOD, GEF protest over barring of transgender woman from court

Members and supporters of the Society Against Sexual Orientation Discrimination (SASOD) and the Guyana Equality Forum (GEF) on Friday staged a picketing exercise outside of the city magistrates’ courts to protest a magistrate’s decision to bar a transgender woman from his courtroom because of her clothing.
