Gov’t briefs private sector on oil and gas plans

Representatives of the Private Sector Commission (PSC) and the Guyana Manufacturing and Services Association (GMSA) were briefed on Government’s plans for the emerging oil and gas sector when they met with Minister of Natural Resources,  Raphael Trotman on Monday.

Mahaicony crash claims second victim

The driver of one of the cars that was involved in the fatal accident on the Mahaicony Public Road, East Coast Demerara (ECD) on Saturday, which claimed the life of a four-year-old, succumbed to her injuries yesterday morning at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH).

Chair of Toshaos Council urges concrete solutions to land issues

The need for urgent solutions to longstanding indigenous land issues, a revision of the Amerindian Act and increased stipends for Toshaos were the focus of the opening ceremony of the 10th annual National Toshaos Council (NTC) Conference, which began yesterday at the Arthur Chung Convention Centre.

Sukhai warns against oversight body for Toshaos Council

A suggestion by President David Granger for the establishment of an authority to monitor policies on indigenous affairs has Pauline Sukhai, former minister of what is now the Ministry of Indigenous Peoples’ Affairs and a PPP/C MP, worried that it would be an attempt to usurp the independence of the National Toshaos Council (NTC).
