With the matter of reparations for European slavery very much in the spotlight here and in the Caribbean community, the family of one of Britain’s most famous prime ministers is set to travel to Guyana this week to apologise for their ancestor’s historical role in slavery.

Guyana’s freedom must never be threatened again

In commemorating the bicentennial anniversary of the 1823 Demerara slave uprising on Friday at the monument site opposite the Georgetown Seawall, President Irfaan Ali said that the protection and preservation of democracy must be a shield to safeguard Guyana’s freedom – a freedom that must never come under threat again.

Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) officers yesterday conducted an operation at Sandaka Creek, East Berbice-Corentyne, where they discovered several bags, containing parcels of suspected cannabis in clumps of bushes along the creek.

Handyman pleads guilty to robbing Canal resident, 76

Amos Jack, a 21-year-old handyman of Zeelugt Squatting Area, East Bank Essequibo, was arrested and charged on Friday  under Section 187 of the Criminal Law (Offences) Act Chapter 8:01 for Larceny in Dwelling House, committed on a 76-year-old of Canal #1, West Bank Demerara, which occurred between July and August 2023.
