Bauxite union urges new minister’s intervention in BCGI dispute

The Guyana Bauxite and General Workers Union (GB&GWU) yesterday wrote to new Labour Minister Dr Nanda Gopaul requesting that he intervene in several outstanding grievances the union has with the BCGI, Olden-dorff Carriers Inc.

Bel Air armed robbery charges against Shawn Hinds withdrawn

Six persons accused of the July 12 $7 million Bel Air Gardens robbery yesterday made another court appearance before acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ court, while the charges against a seventh accused, Shawn Hinds, were withdrawn.

Tourism Ministry functioning normally

The Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce is said to currently be functioning as it should even with the absence of a minister since its budget ends at the conclusion of this year.

In a story titled ‘Fracas over election protest lands two in court’ published in last Wednesday’s edition, it was inadvertently stated that Dawn Moore and Tie Sheng Ye had been bonded to keep the peace when in fact the court had only handed down the sentence to Tie Sheng Ye.

Canada to pull out of Kyoto protocol

OTTAWA, (Reuters) – Canada will pull out of the  Kyoto protocol on climate change, Environment Minister Peter  Kent said today, dealing a symbolic blow to the troubled  global treaty.
