Essequibo accident victim still awaiting surgery to repair jaw

Three weeks after being injured in a two-vehicle collision in Essequibo, vendor Bassmattie Bissoon is still a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) awaiting another surgery to fix her dislocated jaw, while the 18-year-old driver who caused the accident is still to be charged.

Arbitrary detention is never tolerated – police

The Guyana Police Force is fully cognizant of the stipulated period for detention in the Constitution of 72 hours and Divisional and Branch Commanders are fully abreast of the requirements in this respect; as such detention beyond this period has a Constitutional provision of approach to the High Court for an extension.

Libya declares “liberation”, Gaddafi unburied

BENGHAZI, Libya, (Reuters) – Libya’s new rulers  declared the country freed from Muammar Gaddafi’s 42 years of  one-man rule today, saying the “Pharaoh of the times” was  now in history’s garbage bin and a future of democracy and  postwar reconciliation beckoned.
