Corentyne student injured in altercation with teacher

The Department of Education in New Amsterdam is investigating an incident at the Central Corentyne Secondary School involving a teacher and a student, in which a student sustained a head injury that required three stitches.

Participants being taken through an aerobics workout session conducted by local fitness guru Curtis McKenzie at the Caribbean Wellness Day health awareness fair at the Merriman’s Mall, Bourda. Wellness day observance attracts hundreds

Hundreds of Guyanese joined the rest of their brothers and sisters across the region in observing Caribbean Wellness Day last Saturday when they gave themselves a check-up or got a massage at a health awareness fair.

Sao Paulo (Reuters) – Miss Angola Leila Lopes, a business  student from the town of Benguela in her home country, was  crowned Miss Universe yesterday after dazzling a panel of  judges with her beauty and impressing them with her brain.

More than 100 burnt to death in Kenya fire – media

NAIROBI, (Reuters) – More than 100 people were burnt  to death and a similar number were taken to hospital after a  petrol fire ignited by a cigarette butt broke out in a densely  populated slum in the Kenyan capital, local media said today.
