IDB loan to assist in prison reform

Information technology equipment valued over US$150,000 was yesterday handed over by Attorney-General and Minister of Legal Affairs, Anil Nandlall, to the Guyana Prisons Service (GPS) to aid in the rehabilitation of inmates upon their release and subsequent reintegration into society.

Despite their pleas to the Magistrate for leniency and to be granted bail, two Georgetown youths were yesterday remanded to prison after being slapped with two counts of robbery under arms charges when they appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates Court.

Plans in motion to upgrade GPL grid for gas-to-shore power

In preparation for the 300-megawatt (MW) Wales gas-to-shore power plant’s late 2024 completion, government has commenced plans to upgrade the Guyana Power and Light’s (GPL) distribution grid and is awaiting evaluation of tenders for the installation of new electricity lines and substations, the Office of the Prime Minister announced.
