China blames Muslim extremists for attack in Xinjiang

BEIJING, (Reuters) – China said today that Islamic  militants had mounted an attack that left 11 people dead in the  restive western region of Xinjiang, which announced a crackdown  on “illegal” religious activities at the start of the Muslim  fasting month.

Pilot tells relatives there was poor visibility, lighting -report

As investigators arrive here to probe the Caribbean Airlines (CAL) crash-landing, Fareed Dean, the Trinidadian pilot has reportedly told relatives that poor visibility due to heavy rainfall resulted in the aircraft over-shooting the runway at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA).

Jagdeo defends crash-landing response

President Bharrat Jagdeo yesterday said that the emergency response at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri following the crash-landing of a Caribbean Airlines flight was up and running in record time, dismissing suggestions that the authorities had been slow and deficient in tackling the accident.
