US hikes funding for Caribbean Basin Security Initiative

(Jamaica Observer) ROSE HALL, St James — US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton last night announced that her Government has allocated some US$77 million in funding this fiscal year to the Caribbean Basin Security Initiative as it intensifies its fight against the trafficking of illegal weapons and narcotics.

British press reports TT$230,000 FIFA pension for Warner

(Trinidad Express) Although Works and Transport Minister Jack Warner insisted on several occasions that he did not receive a salary for his role as vice-president of FIFA, reports in the British press yesterday stated that he stands to benefit from a pension of approximately TT$230,000 a year.

Guyana, Germany gear up to Co-Chair Interim REDD+ Partnership

President Bharrat Jagdeo yesterday in a series of meetings in Germany with that country’s leaders focused on the need for sustained political action on climate change, and in particular on Guyana’s and Germany’s upcoming joint chairing of the Interim REDD+ Partnership from July 1, the Government Information Agency (GINA) said in a press release.
