SOCU says doesn’t have any statement from Hicken on $8.5m for Brutus’ wedding

Head of the Special Organised Crime Unit (SOCU), Assistant Commissioner of Police Fizul Karimbaksh has denied a report in yesterday’s Sunday Stabroek that Top Cop Clifton Hicken submitted a statement to the SOCU investigators acknowledging that he collected an envelope with $8.5m in cash from a businessman to offset the cost of Brutus’s wedding at the Pegasus Suites Atlantic Conference Centre.

30 GDF officers commissioned

The officer corps of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) has been bolstered by the addition of 30 newly-commissioned officers who were on Friday, presented with their Instruments of Commis-sion by Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces President Irfaan Ali, a release from the Depart-ment of Public Information said.

UNICEF launches ‘Hear Me Out’ campaign to improve mental health in Guyana

In an effort to foster open discussions among young people about mental health and highlight the importance of seeking treatment, UNICEF Guyana, in collaboration with the Office of the First Lady, the Ministry of Health, the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), and World Health Organization (WHO), on Thursday, October 10, launched its “Hear Me Out” mental health anti-stigma campaign at the Port Mourant Community Centre Ground in Region Six, a UNICEF release announced.
