Union loses lawsuit for recognition as bargaining unit for GGMC workers

High Court Judge Nareshwar Harnanan has dismissed an application of the Guyana Civil Servants and General Workers Union (GCS&GWU), which had made several applications to the Trade Union Recognition and Certification Board (the Board) to be treated as the recognized union for workers of the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC).

Relocation of Warrau migrants prompts outcry over living conditions

The recent relocation of Warrau migrants from Kabakaburi, in Region Two, to what have been described as poor living conditions, has come in for strong criticism from those who were helping them to integrate and the Amerindian Peoples Association (APA) on Thursday called for authorities to provide increased humanitarian support.

E’quibo farmers offered $200 hike in paddy price

With Region Two’s rice farmers clamouring for higher prices for their paddy, Minister of Agriculture Zulfikar Mustapha on Thursday told them that millers have agreed to  pay them $3,700 per bag of A Grade paddy—$200 more than what they were previously being paid.
