Teen charged with causing deaths in De Willem crash

Matthew Ambedkar, who was driving the vehicle that crashed into a bar at De Willem Public Road, West Coast Demerara (WCD) on Monday night and killed three men, was yesterday remanded to prison after he was charged three counts of causing death by dangerous driving.

Rice farmers agitating for higher paddy prices

Rice farmers in regions Two and Six are still dissatisfied and continue to agitate for higher prices from millers for their paddy with farmers at Black Bush Polder in their third day of protest.

President charges police force to ‘up its game’

Saying that the country’s security needs to be boosted, President Irfaan Ali yesterday charged the Guyana Police Force (GPF) to “up its game” particularly as it relates to crime fighting to meet the needs of the country in light of the economic expansion and transformation that is occurring.

Kevin Sahoye has been sentenced to six years in prison for the 2016 killing of 13-year-old Daveanand Sanichar, but following deductions for time spent on remand, he would essentially be released from prison soon.

Challenge to President’s suspension of Police Service Commission members can proceed

High Court Judge, Gino Persaud has ruled that the challenge filed by the Police Service Commission (PSC) to the suspension of its Commissioners by President Irfaan Ali and the non-promotion of ranks can proceed, and that its former Chairman, retired Assistant Commissioner of Police, Paul Slowe, having sufficient standing in the case, can stand in its stead—though now expired.
