Dear Editor, I had deliberately refrained from writing on the ongoing controversy over the Bharrat Jagdeo government’s decision to withhold ads from Stabroek News because I felt that this decision was such a profound attack on the freedom of the press and democracy in Guyana that it was bound to create new contradictions in the body politic of the nation.

Dear Editor, I hope the withdrawal of government ads would not adversely impact on the existence of SN although it is difficult for one not to recognize the serious effects the withdrawal of ads would have on the paper.

Dear Editor, Working for a business entity where my direct responsibility is for advertising and promoting the products sold by this entity, I discovered in the year 2002, that media houses and advertising agencies could not provide any factual details on how many persons read/watch their newspaper or TV station.
