Salvadoran ex-prosecutor says government quashed probe into pact with gangs

SAN SALVADOR,  (Reuters) – A former senior Salvadoran anti-corruption prosecutor said President Nayib Bukele’s government shut down his unit’s investigation into its alleged negotiations with violent street gangs to help expand its power, as the United States steps up pressure on the Central American country over those talks.

Haitians mourn victims of fuel truck blast as anger simmers

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti, (Reuters) – Haitians yesterday mourned victims of a fuel truck blast that killed 90 people last week, though many stayed home out of anger at the government amid a string of tragedies in a Caribbean nation plagued by gang violence, poverty and political turmoil.
