Britain and India aim for free trade deal by October, says Johnson

NEW DELHI,  (Reuters) – Britain and India agreed today to step up defence and business cooperation during a visit to New Delhi by Boris Johnson, who said a bilateral free-trade deal could be wrapped up by October.

Ukrainian fighters hold on as Putin claims victory in Mariupol

KYIV,  (Reuters) – Ukrainian fighters were clinging to their last redoubt in Mariupol this morning after Russian President Vladimir Putin claimed victory in the biggest battle of the war, declaring the port city “liberated” following weeks of relentless bombardment.

PARIS,  (Reuters) – French President Emmanuel Macron yesterday accused his far-right rival Marine Le Pen of being in thrall to Russian President Vladimir Putin over a years-old Russian bank loan to her party during a fiery TV debate ahead of Sunday’s election.

No surrender in Mariupol as Russian deadline expires

(Reuters) – A Russian ultimatum to Ukrainian troops in Mariupol to surrender or die expired this  afternoon with no mass capitulation, but the commander of a unit believed to be holding out in the besieged city said his forces could survive just days or hours.
