Taliban hail victory with gunfire after last U.S. troops leave Afghanistan

 (Reuters) – Celebratory gunfire resounded across the Afghan capital today as the Taliban took control of the airport following the withdrawal of the last U.S.

Hurricane Ida lashes Louisiana, knocking out power in New Orlean

NEW ORLEANS, (Reuters) – Hurricane Ida, making landfall as a fierce Category 4 storm, plowed into Louisiana from the Gulf Mexico yesterday, lashing the coast with 150 mile-per-hour winds, torrential downpours and pounding surf that submerged much of the shoreline under several feet of water.

NEW ORLEANS, (Reuters) – Hurricane Ida made landfall in Louisiana today as an extremely dangerous Category 4 storm, forcing those who did not flee to brace themselves for the toughest test yet of the billions of dollars spent on levee upgrades following Hurricane Katrina 16 years ago.
