Letters to the Editor

Protecting women starts with the victims

Dear Editor, I wish to highlight a major concern when it comes to victims of abuse and domestic violence, more specifically, our women, as I believe that some of the decisions and actions of our women are alarming and worrisome as much as the social crisis and dilemma that we have been faced with for years.

Given ExxonMobil’s history, environmental protection should be prioritized

Dear Editor, All Guyanese should welcome the High Court’s ruling of Justice Sandil Kissoon ordering the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to secure an unlimited liability Parent Company Guarantee Agreement and/or an unlimited liability Affiliate Company Guarantee from ExxonMobil affiliate, Esso Exploration and Production Guyana Limited (EEPGL.

Descent into lawlessness

Dear Editor, The Guyanese society has descended into utter lawlessness. The recent video of two male civilians attacking a uniformed Police Officer, while on duty, has made its way across the social media spectrum, nationally and internationally.

It is the duty of all of us to ensure that Judge Kissoon’s decision is carried out

Dear Editor, Last week, reporting on the ruling of Justice Sandil Kissoon, who heard the case brought against EEPGL and the EPA by Frederick Collins and Godfrey Whyte, Stabroek News said, “ExxonMobil’s local affiliate, EEPGL, has agreed in the permit to provide insurance and an unlimited parent company indemnity to cover all environmental loss and damage that might result from a well blowout, oil spill or other failures in the Liza 1 Development Project in Guyana’s Stabroek Block.”
