Dear Editor, The Ethnic Relations Commission (ERC) met with both the Stabroek News and the Indian Arrival Committee (IAC) on Friday, July 04, 2008 to deliver its ruling to a complaint made by the IAC regarding the paper’s cartoon of Sunday, June 15, 2008.

Dear Editor, I write with reference to a letter appearing in your edition of July 2, 2008 captioned ‘Illegal operators bring international calls using Digicel and GT&T networks’ and the included response from an officer of GT&T.

Dear Editor, Minister for Forestry Robert Persaud was quoted in the Guyana Chronicle on April 23, 2007, as banning the export of unprocessed logs by Bai Shan Lin (‘Bai Shan Lin’s request to export logs denied’).

Dear Editor, I support the country’s Value Added Tax (VAT) vis-à-vis an income tax alternative because to the extent a tax is seen as a penalty, then VAT penalizes consumption while income tax impacts production thereby making the latter less competitive in an increasingly competitive world.

Dear Editor, It rained a lot that night and the following Sunday morning animal lover, Paul Gonsalves, took his dog for a walk on Eping Ave.

Dear Editor, In a city bereft of traffic signage the NO PARKING sign is outstanding in Georgetown, though not in an upright position, but rather because it can be observed by the motorist usually when it is too late or too close, to just about everywhere one has to transact business.

Dear Editor, Dr Randy Persaud’s satirical letter, ‘The PPP leaders should take the disillusionment in the diaspora seriously,’ (SN July 3) that both poked fun at the government and pointed factually at what is happening in the diaspora, perhaps more so in New York City where several thousand Guyanese reside, has to be widely known to the PPP leaders.

Dear Editor, Perhaps Pastor Daniel Singh can tell us why Barack Obama is ‘African American’ and not just ‘American’ (‘In the country of his birth Obama is African-American,’ SN July 1).

Dear Editor, With respect to Navindo Tinsarran’s letter (‘The problem is the standard by which we measure ourselves,’ SN 2.7.08) in response to my letter (‘Women do respect themselves,’ SN 27.6.08), I believe I was very careful to note that it was exactly his view that “dressing is one contributory factor to rape” that I wished to further explore with the writer. In
