Letters to the Editor

Another blunder

Dear Editor, After making much ado about the selling of the now profitable hotel, with the reasoning that now is the right time, the sale is off the table, at least for now, as the bids are too low and not what was expected.

This gov’t has deprived local councils and municipalities of financial autonomy

Dear Editor, It has been 43 years since the constitution of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, ordered the establishment of the 10 Regional Democratic Councils as the local governing authorities for the regions, and 33 years since Order 51 established the lower-tier local governments authorities, municipalities, neighbourhood democratic councils, and to date, those authorities have not been given their full financial autonomy from central government to manage their local affairs.

Why is the government opposed to biometric technology in our electoral process?

Dear Editor, Election is an important pillar in any democratic society and the recent revelations in the public domain regarding persons’ names appearing on the electoral list without their consent, persons who are deceased and who have been out of the jurisdiction for years appearing as signatories on those lists, should be taken very seriously.

Guyana is making genuine good faith efforts to fight corruption

Dear Editor, The objectionable narrative from Stabroek News, via its editorial headlined ‘Regional anti-corruption conference’ on April 23, 2023, serve the single purpose of feeding into the narrative of naysayers in Guyana – the usual suspects whose agenda remains unchanged and  visible, conveniently enough, only when the PPP/C Administration is in Office.
