Dear Editor, In many hinterland schools of Guyana there is one main issue affecting our standard of education and that is our students dropping out of secondary schools.

Dear Editor, Over the past couple of days I have noticed many passengers on the Georgetown to Industry/UG route being verbally abusive to minibus drivers and conductors about the increase in fares from $80 to $100.

Dear Editor, The drivers/conductors plying the Georgetown to Industry route have taken it upon themselves to increase the bus fare from $80 to $100 even though it has been publicly announced that there will be no increase in bus fares unless and until gas is $1000 per gallon.

Dear Editor, I agree with Carl Veecock: Donald Drayton’s piece on Albouystown was indeed a “good write,” and my husband and I both enjoyed reading it, though we wondered whether some of the people named might be sensitive about their origins being mentioned.

Dear Editor, PPP General Secretary, Mr Donald Ramotar, in his letter, ‘A Goebbels culture held aloft by the opposition,’ (KN, 18.5.08), would have many of us believe that, compared with the AFC’s Khemraj Ramjattan and others who have accused the Jagdeo regime of abusing the so-called ‘Burnham constitution,’ he is telling the truth that President Bharrat Jagdeo basically enjoys similar protections to those of certain other democracies.

Dear Editor, I find it shocking that special prosecutors were ap-pointed in many cases before the Magistrate’s Court, yet there is no word on an outstanding application from the Roman Catholic Church for a special prosecutor for the insurance fraud case concerning the Sacred Heart Church.

Dear Editor, With reference to my letter ‘Construction and squatting taking place on government reserves in parts of Corentyne’ (SN, 12.5.08), I apologize for inadvertently mentioning that people are squatting and erecting buildings on “government reserves.”
