Letters to the Editor

Ranvanlee Chan still waiting for help

Dear Editor, The matter of Ranvanlee Chan, the 10-year-old boy from Sisters Village, East Bank Berbice, who was alleged to have been brutally beaten by members of the Guyana Police Force on January 1, 2008, is not to be put to rest because the administrators connected to this incident have been contacted by me in the hope that little Ranvanlee would be given a chance to overcome his ordeal.

When will Guyanese become outraged?

Dear Editor,   The brutal killings in Lusignan and Bartica, and now the murder of Farouk Kalamadeen are an exemplification of the lawlessness that has pervaded Guyana for the last decade under PPP leadership.

Africa has done as well as China and India economically

Dear Editor, While I am sure that many people would agree with Baldeo Persaud that ‘Africa suffers from poor leaders’ as he highlighted in his letter (SN, 5.5.08) I would like to point out that Africa has done as well as China and India on the economic front.

Unprocessed logs continue to be exported

Dear Editor, In two articles in KN the Guyana Forestry Commission (GFC) has been protesting about being taken to court by Toolsie Persaud Ltd (TPL) over activities in forest logging concession TSA 04/1985 which expired and should have been closed in December 2007 (‘TPL fined $80.2M for timber breaches’ (1.5.08), and ‘Forestry monitoring – Guyana turning to Brazil for help in using satellite imagery,’ (3.5.08).
