Letters to the Editor

Ranvanlee Chan still waiting for help

Dear Editor, The matter of Ranvanlee Chan, the 10-year-old boy from Sisters Village, East Bank Berbice, who was alleged to have been brutally beaten by members of the Guyana Police Force on January 1, 2008, is not to be put to rest because the administrators connected to this incident have been contacted by me in the hope that little Ranvanlee would be given a chance to overcome his ordeal.

A man for all seasons

Dear Editor, As my family mourn the passing of our gardener who touched the lives of all seven of us, I cannot help but note how in our society, obituaries seem reserved for the rich, the powerful and the famous.

Why was President Jagdeo a no-show on Labour Day and the government-sponsored media conference?

Dear Editor, I found it extremely odd that President Bharrat Jagdeo would be out of the country – one blog reported he was scheduled to appear at a social function in New York on Saturday, May 3 – at the same time when Guyanese workers publicly observed Labour Day on May 1, and at the same time when the Guyana Government sponsored a Media and Communication Conference on May 2.

What is the status of the Leonora Park cricket ground?

Dear Editor, At a consultative meeting held at the Leonora Government School with Dr Ashni Singh on the food crisis, because the doctor belonged to the cabinet, I seized the opportunity to air my concern about the status of the Leonora Park cricket ground.

Phone network down

Dear Editor, The entire 263 network which covers areas such as La Grange, Canal and Mocha stopped working last Thursday.

Animals should not be left to wander on our roads

Dear Editor, Once again it is with distress and deep anger that I read of traffic fatalities caused by circumstances which are completely avoidable, to wit, the loss of 3 invaluable lives at Bee Hive on Monday (SN, April 29, 2008), on account of wandering cattle.
