Letters to the Editor

Can the weapons be retrieved after thirty years?

Dear Editor, Judging from your Tuesday, January 22 lead article headlined “Weapons issued to senior PNC official not returned – army sources say issuance went beyond 1979,” it seems to me that the serious charges of torture by the army against its own and against civilians have been outmanoeuvred from current headlines by ongoing revelations of the army-issued weapons to the PNC regime ministries, officials and agencies.

Sport Letters

Dear Editor, I refer to a letter by Carlton Beckles, the Secretary of the Bartica Football Association captioned “Any efforts to develop football have been stymied” (08.01.19).

More radio stations is the only sensible solution

Dear Editor It is my view that Vishnu Bisram in his letter captioned “Hindi songs are loved globally though people do not know the language” (08.01.20) tarnished an otherwise excellent observation on the discussion of the abundance of Indian music on local radio, by ending with a racial uppercut, which is a total disrespect for African Guyanese.

I welcome the Bar Association’s statement on torture

Dear Editor, I wish to express welcome for the statement of the Guyana Bar Association, given to the press and television by its President, Attorney-at-Law Mr Kashir Khan condemning the government’s handling of the torture allegations against the security forces and the alleged misconduct of a minister of the government.

I commend the police for investigating this issue

Dear Editor, I shouted aloud after reading the letter by Attorney-at-Law Charrandass Persaud captioned “An internal police investigation is underway into the abuse of this child and a senior police officer has been relieved of his responsibilities” (08.01.20).
