Dear Editor, After reading the news article ‘Teenager gang-raped at Barama’ in the Thursday, December 6th edition of your newspaper, I was outraged in several respects.

DearEditor, Presumably the Barama Company Limited will now be sending home the same proportion of its expatriate work force as the proportion of its Guyanese staff who are being made redundant?

Dear Editor, Many writers, including myself, have written in the past about Value Added Tax (VAT) and attributed rising prices of food commodities to VAT.

Dear Editor, Watching the TV recently I couldn’t agree more with President Jagdeo when he said that persons needed to be confirmed in their positions to give them not only security of tenure but to give them confidence and to shield them from the Executive.

Dear Editor, Your newspaper has recently published at least two letters by Mark Benschop in which he designated the President of Guyana as King Jagdeo, a title that his position does not accommodate.

Dear Editor, Since the departure of Dr S Devadattu the rice scientist from India on August 13, 2001 the standard of the Burma Rice Research Station has dropped tremendously.

Dear Editor, GPL’s timely intervention to get people to conserve electricity in these blackout and energy hungry times should be a reminder to Guyanese that we import electricity in the form of fuel, generating equipment, cabling, skilled workers and other items necessary for the generation of electricity.

Dear Editor, Please allow me to make a brief response to two letters captioned: “Indian loyalty should not be construed as due to loyalty to the PPP but to fear of being ostracised or attacked” by an unnamed writer, and “By its works shall the Alliance be judged” by Barrington Braithwaite.

Dear Editor, The Land Court at New Amsterdam Supreme Court was moved to a building at Strand, New Amsterdam.

Dear Editor, This letter is an appeal for the relevant authorities to investigate the conditions under which juvenile suspects and defendants are detained in police detention facilities in this country.
