GuySuCo is not an island

Dear Editor, It is noted that GuySuCo’s Board of Directors has decided to engage private cane farmers ‘to accelerate the rehabilitation of fields’ according to SN of February 05, which goes on the report that ‘contracts have already been awarded to private contractors for the cultivation of 4,000 hectares of lands, in addition to GuySuCo’s 3,000 hectares.

Dear Editor Can I congratulate Guyana’s finest historiographer (and my friend) Professor Clem Seecharan on the Guyana Prize for his fine tome (with Ian McDonald) on Joe Solomon the cricketer.

I would point blank refuse to be examined by Hughes

Dear Editor, I find it quite extraordinary that the Commission of Inquiry into the March 2020 General and Regional Elections has agreed to allow the Attorney-at-Law, Nigel Hughes, representing former Deputy Chief Election Officer, Roxanne Myers, to cross examine witnesses who have volunteered to come before the Inquiry who have named Myers for the part she played, when Myers herself has declined to give evidence before the Commission.

Protest within the confines of the law

Dear Editor, Protesting of citizens in any democratic society is a right, however such protest(s) must be conducted as per rules and regulations, in a peaceful and orderly manner, within the confines of the law.

The ‘One Guyana’ initiative is not new

Dear Editor, The idea advanced by President Ali of decentralizing the presidency, on the face of it, is laudable and I have no doubt that he means well, for this is what the few operating within the area of authority feel.
