Dear Editor, I only send this letter because notwithstanding events over several generations here and elsewhere, there is still some lingering relevance to the statement that “the pen is mightier than the sword.”

Dear Editor, Most Guyanese are unaware that when the Dutch created Canals #1 and 2 westwards on the West Bank of the Demerara River to irrigate agricultural land further inland, they created Canal #3 opposite on the East Bank between Plantations Providence and Herstelling going eastwards to do the same for new coffee plantations behind the riverfront plantations.

Dear Editor, News report indicate that “H.E. Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali, President of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, will be one of 27 persons bestowed with the highest honour conferred on overseas Indians – Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award (PBSA) – for the year 2023.”

Dear Editor, As a resident of the East Bank of Demerara, I would like to highlight the horrendous traffic congestion that occurs daily on the East Bank Public Road from Little Diamond to Grove (heading south) and from Friendship to Diamond (northward bound).

Dear Editor, While twenty-eight illegal occupiers willingly complied with the request to relocate and accepted compensation, seven were defiant.
