Democracy in Guyana is strong and strengthening

Dear Editor, I refer to `GHRA calls for fundamental electoral reforms and a move away from Stone Age politics’ (Stabroek News, October 25, 2022) in which several over-generalizations are made about the state of politics in Guyana.

It would appear that Supt. Ramana and other ranks of SOCU are above the law

Dear Editor, The arrest of Attorney-at-Law Tamieka Clarke on Friday October 28, 2022, by Superintendent Krishnadat Ramana and other ranks of the Special Organised Crime Unit (SOCU) of the Guyana Police force is a reprehensible attack on the rule of law and the constitutional right of the attorney and her client and warrants strong condemnation by all right thinking Guyanese, regardless of political affiliation, religious persuasion or ethnicity.

Behavioural/Cultural Specialists should lead the 1,000 Man Committee

Dear Editor, I refer to an article SN (Oct. 29, 2022) in which it was reported that His Excellency, President Irfaan Ali, informed that ‘’a broad-based committee spearheaded by Guyana Defence Force, Brigadier Godfrey Bess with Commissioner of Police Clifton Hicken as second in command,…’ to address matters related to the 1000-Man initiative…to end violence against women.’.
