Dear Editor, I thank the Honourable Prime Minister Brig (retd) Mark Phillips for his invitation to engage with the Mayor and City Council, this afterthought should have been the first course of action before levelling accusations and attempting to worsen an already antagonistic relationship with Government if there was a sincere desire to work together.

Dear Editor, I perused a statement from the Guyana Police Association – Re Appointment of Police Service Commission dated June 1, 2022 signed by Prem Narine, Detective Inspector, and Chairman of the Guyana Police Association.

Dear Editor, The National Insurance Scheme (NIS) continues to be a bureaucratic nightmare with the only thing perhaps holding up the Scheme being the red tape that seems to be in ready supply and easily manufactured by the NIS.

Dear Editor, The passing of the great Caribbean prophet, George Lamming, has elicited very well deserved praise from West Indians across the globe.

Dear Editor, Once more there is talk of the value of investment in the sugar industry this time in relation to “five new tilling machines valued at $100m” intended “to spur greater production in the fields” (as distinct from productivity) dependent on the varieties most conducive to Rose Hall Estate, Berbice.

Dear Editor, First it was his refusal to attend the meeting.

Dear Editor, Incredibly outrageous is a mild description of the treatment meted out to our Indigenous children of Region Seven. 

Dear Editor, Professor George Lamming, Caribbean and global literary luminary, Philosopher King of Post-colonialism, and social justice activist, transitioned in his native Barbados—the castle of his skin—on Saturday June 4, 2022 at age 94.

Dear Editor, Given the long impasse in confirming the Chancellor of the Judiciary and the Chief Justice, I suggest that the current holders of these offices and the past acting officers in these offices be given their full rights and retirement benefits as if they were confirmed.

Dear Editor, The initiative by the Government to provide jobs for the unemployed in different communities is indeed commendable.

Dear Editor, Another boat tragedy. The boat captain whose body was found in a fuel tank, allegedly overcome by fumes in the tank (SN June 7), begs the question was he outfitted with the requisite protective gear,  particularly breathing apparatus?

Dear Editor, I join with others in lamenting the passing of George Lamming, the iconic man of Caribbean letters and literary giant in his own right.

Dear Editor, It is with deep sadness that I learned yesterday of the passing of my dear friend and brother, the esteemed author and  social commentator George Lamming.
