Dear Editor, I write today to express my confusion regarding the enigmatic presence of the Alliance for Change (AFC) party in our beloved Guyana.

 Dear Editor, As our educators continue to be firm in their demand for the PPP/C government to respect and regard their constitutional right to collective bargaining and decent salaries, the recent announcement by Vice President, Bharrat Jagdeo, at his recent press conference, has once again demonstrated a worrying misalignment of priorities.

Dear Editor, Investing in education is not only a wise choice but an economic necessity.

Dear Editor, The situation in Berbice with the epidemic of dengue outbreaks affecting citizens there should be a significant priority for this PPP government and with the shortage of test kits at government facilities throughout Berbice (test kits are invaluable in detecting dengue), the shortage of gloves and wipes for countertops, the lack of proper fogging to kill mosquitos , the slapdash  road repairs leaving water and mosquitos in people’s  yards, lack of proper drain cleaning and the poor quality of regional leadership are all contributing to the dengue nightmare which is affecting those citizens – many of them PPP supporters.

Editor, It is very sad. The PNCR seem to have an in-built aversion to democratic elections – party and state.

Dear Editor, In the online news article “Gov’t sends Mae Thomas Toussaint on leave following US report” (SN, 11th June 2024) The Ministry of Labour Permanent Secretary (Mae Thomas Toussaint) was sent on leave pending an investigation into corruption.

Dear Editor, Reference is made to Dr. Thomas B. Singh’s letter in the Stabroek News edition of June 11, 2024, with the caption `The BOG policy seems to be a pursuit of exchange rate targeting as against inflation targeting or price stability’.

Dear Editor, I am repeating some of what was shared in a recent participation on the David Hinds Show, Politics 101. 

Dear Editor, After noting that the Bank of Guyana injected more than US$80M into the foreign exchange market, and stating that there is no interbank market for foreign exchange, the VP went on – according to a recent report – to say “We believe the equilibrium; the rate that is struck now, is right for the economy.”
