Dear Editor,
As reports of new oil discoveries are announced, it is becoming increasingly evident that Guyana is on the cusp of becoming a Petroleum Republic with all the attendant implications and consequences.
Dear Editor,
I welcome the forward-looking attitude in Barry Braithwaite’s letter in SN, 3rd March ‘We will be liberated economically by our oil resources’.
Dear Editor,
First, I express my appreciation to Kaieteur News for its exposure of the blatant denial, of taxpayers support, by Ogle Airport Inc (OAI) via their Public Communications Consultant Kit Nascimento.
Dear Editor,
“The Stone Age did not end for lack of stone, and the Oil Age will end long before the world runs out of oil” – Sheikh Zaki Yamani, former Minister of oil of Saudi Arabia.
According to an advertisement in Friday’s Stabroek News by the Special Purpose Unit (SPU) set up under the National Industrial and Commercial Investments Limited (NICIL) to oversee the privatization of sugar estates, Lots numbered 1 to 12 and 14 to 31, parts of Plantation Wales along the eastern and western sides of the West Bank Public Road have been put up for sale.
Dear Editor,
The residents of Region Nine are calling on the government to permanently place a Labour Officer in the Region to address issues of conflict between employers and employees.
Dear Editor,
The recent announcement by ExxonMobil of a seventh oil discovery offshore Guyana includes a statement by Steve Greenlee, president of ExxonMobil Exploration Company, that “Pacora will be developed in conjunction with the giant Payara field, and along with other phases, will help bring Guyana production to more than 500,000 barrels per day.”
Dear Editor,
I refer to Ms Isabelle de Caires’s missive in SN lamenting that a letter critical of me that she sent twice to Kaieteur News was not published (‘KN did not publish letter seeking to correct columnist’s statement’ SN, March 3).
There were three stories on a related topic in our edition yesterday: the first dealing with the pressure being put on Region One’s health services owing to illegal Venezuelans entering and seeking treatment, the second a general story about the numbers fleeing our western neighbour and their destinations on the continent, and the third the fining of a man in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court because he entered Guyana illegally through Eteringbang.
Dear Editor,
Atlantic Gardens was created by the Demerara Mutual Life Assurance Society Ltd as a lovely, peaceful ocean-side residential area, but this neighbourhood is constantly and openly violated by lawless persons in and out of the community and the Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC) is doing nothing about it.
Dear Editor,
Last week, the Stabroek news (2018.02.24) published a letter by Vishnu Bisram under the caption “Jagan and the PPP broke their promise to revoke the Burnham Constitution”.
Dear Editor,
I couldn’t help but admire the letter written by Mr Sieyf Shahabuddeen on his expression of gratitude to those who paid tribute to his distinguished father, Judge Mohamed Shahabuddeen on his passing in Toronto not so long ago.
Dear Editor,
Concerned and patriotic citizens who have publicly condemned the unconscionable contract between the Government of Guyana and the corporate predator, ExxonMobil, have been arrogantly dismissed by certain Ministers of the APNU+AFC administration as ‘jokers’ or mere oppositionists.
