Dear Editor, I have tremendous respect for columnists and letter writers especially those who use their columns to promote a progressive world view.

Towards the end of every year, dictionaries announce their word of the year.

Dear Editor,   The government has embarked on a grueling road.  It has taken on the thankless task of changing the course of the ship of state; immediately it has encountered stormy seas, underwater mines, and mutiny by the many well-heeled citizens/passengers, and a well-placed incumbent crew. 

Dear Editor, Some time ago, when Minister Ramjattan announced that bars and clubs must close at 2am, there were many appeals to him to reconsider this measure but  Minister Ramjattan was steadfast in his position.

Dear Editor, Quote from the December 24th Sunday Stabroek news report: “A key finding of the report after assessing similar PSAs from around the world is that the Stabroek PSA has the lowest Average Effective Tax Rate (AETR) of “government take”.

No doubt there will be pleasant memories for Caribbean sport fans when they reflect down the road on the year now drawing to a close.

Dear Editor, The New Year should not Bring New Fears! New Year has joined the list of things that are gradually becoming objects of derision and contempt among many people.

Dear Editor, It seems to me that no other country will join the Appellate Division of the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) before the retirement of the second president Sir Denis Byron in July next year.

Dear Editor, The Government of Guyana deserves congratulations for defying the threats by the United States of America against countries voting for a UN General Assembly  resolution calling on the United States to withdraw its recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

Dear Editor, As 2017 draws to a close, I highlight some of the positives that caught my attention, and which were found comforting. 

Dear Editor, I write in reference to Sean Ori’s suggestion that the ‘PPP should take back the party from Bharrat Jagdeo’ (SN, Dec 21) which is a riposte to my letter.

Dear Editor, It was not because New Zealand is something of a fortress for its country’s cricket team, it was because the West Indies team was so weak.

Dear Editor, I believe that the government has done well in offering protection to many by constructing overhead passes on the East Bank Demerara.

Dear Editor, The principled stand taken by the Government of Guyana in the UN Jerusalem vote must be commended.
