Dear Editor, Over the Holi weekend, I had occasion to reflect on the recent flurry of news and views about the police and policing in Guyana.

Dear Editor, As the festival of Holi dawned upon all Guyanese, spreading colours of joy and harmony, it’s pertinent to reflect on its profound message of unity and forgiveness.

Dear Editor, I read the barrage of misrepresentations made recently by Gail Teixeira to the UN Human Rights Committee on corruption in Guyana, specifically broadcasting which is very well known to me being a former broadcaster, and reported in KN of 22nd March 2024, captioned “UN flags PPP dominated GNBA” and “raises concerns of media control”.

Dear Editor, I wish to respond to Joey Jagan’s letter (SN22/03/24) with an analogy in the form of question.

The incident in which two policemen were, earlier this month, reportedly caught up in a scam during which they pretended to be attached to the Force’s Special Organized Crimes Unit (SOCU) and used their cover as a vehicle with which to perpetrate a shocking, bare-faced and seemingly ill thought-out rip-off is part of a familiar pattern of seriously deviant behaviour by some Police Officers.

Dear Editor, It is sickening to see the piles of garbage and debris constantly visible as one drives along Georgetown’s streets.

Dear Editor, Guyana’s profile as a significant player on the international stage is being further enhanced with the visits of two former world leaders, Tony Blair of Great Britain and Bill Clinton of the United States.

It was inevitable that the absence of a confirmed Chancellor of the Judiciary and a Chief Justice and the implications of such would arise at international fora.
