After almost a week of public allegations of sexual abuse in one of the country’s top schools, some decisions were arrived at on Friday by a committee set up by the Ministry of Education. 

Dear Editor, First of all, I’d like to make a correction to reporting in both papers Stabroek News and Kaieteur News that I brought the issue of Mr Jackson to the attention of the Chief Education Officer five months ago. 

Dear Editor, On November 25, which is Inter-national Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and marks the start of 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, Guyana is faced with shocking reports of the sexual abuse of high school students allegedly by Coen Jackson, an economics teacher who spent the last 10 years teaching at Bishop’s High School.

Dear Editor, It is encouraging that a few Bishops’ High School (BHS) alumni have dared to confront the totally abhorrent cultures of wilful blindness and silence, in the face of all sorts of abuses, which pervade life in Guyana today (Stabroek News November 22).

Dear Editor, When you listen to President Granger’s messages to the nation, they are extremely cryptic, so much so that only the expert can decipher his tone, which ranges from didactic to plain old empty sloganeering. 

Dear Editor, Guyanese and other Caribbean diasporas in America join with other Americans in giving thanks for being in America by celebrating the traditional Thanksgiving Day holiday with family, church service reunions, feasts, and charitable offerings.

Dear Editor, Much media and civil society attention is focused at present on the  developing story of a male teacher at Bishops’ High School (BHS) who is reported to have systematically targeted girl students, often just as they are reaching the age of consent, to groom them into some form of sexual relationship with him.
