Dear Editor,
After making my presentation on Sunday, 20th August 2017 at the Atlantic Avenue Georgetown the site of the 1823 Monument, people have been calling for my speech to be published in the print media.
Dear Editor,
I am currently counselling a young woman who is suffering from major depression, and I’m writing this letter to warn parents, families, employers, and friends to be careful of what they say to a depressed person or that person may end up taking his/her own life.
Dear Editor,
Strangely for a moment, Gower, one of those English captains who suffered at the hands of the West Indies behemoth of the eighties, was “looking to Australia”, while the English team trailed by 137 runs in their second innings.
Dear Editor,
Concerning the matter of whether the Caribbean diaspora in New York can secure political representation, Mike Persaud’s unfortunate dismissal of the pioneering efforts of previous Guyanese-born candidates ‒ Trevor Rupnarain, Dr Taj Rajkumar, Dr Dhanpaul Narine, Attorney Albert Baldeo, Dr Robby Mahadeo ‒ is symptomatic of the myopic armchair mentality of West Indians living in the overseas diaspora (‘Guyanese-born candidate standing for NY City Council’ SN, August 23).
Up to the time of local government elections last year, for the first time in more than two decades, there appeared to have existed the notion (at least in some quarters) that a change in the political administration at City Hall would necessarily bring about a corresponding transformation in the performance of the municipal civil service.
Dear Editor,
With regard the recent outburst from Ms Bibi Shadick, she opposes the text of the Broadcasting Amendments of 2017 and in so doing she makes one fundamental point which I wish to address.
Dear Editor,
The front page of last Thursday’s Guyana Chronicle screamed the headlines ‘Pradoville land in dispute’ with two taglines which read, ‘Plaisance resident says land was bought by slaves’ and ‘SOCU points to massive discrepancies in transfer’.
Dear Editor,
The Caribbean Voice wonders why Ms Annie Baliram (‘A significant decline in the suicide rate is not possible’ SN, August 21) is casting doubt on the 2015 suicide rate for Guyana, which shows a reduction from 44.2 to 30.6 per 1000,000, and not all or any other previous rates.
Dear Editor,
I have said it tongue in cheek at times and other times seriously, but in truth there does seem to be an unusually high percentage of stupid people in the business of cricket management.
Dear Editor,
The repeated reports in the media, with August 22, 2017 being the most recent, on the non-appointment of the Local Government Commission (LGC), once again quotes the Minister of Communities, Mr Ronald Bulkan, as saying that it will be appointed by the end of 2017.
