Dear Editor, It is no secret that the WPA as a party and its leadership – the executive committee ‒ have been subjected to public and on occasions, very hostile criticism, for what our detractors have interpreted as our silence in relation to the coalition government’s action and/or inaction on important matters affecting Guyana and its citizens.

Dear Editor, As a former Minister of Home Affairs with responsibility for the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) I am saddened at the announcement made on June 16 by the APNU+AFC coalition administration terminating its contractual engagement with Mr James Singh, Head of CANU.

Dear Editor, Two nights ago thieves broke into the padlocked storeroom of the Blairmont Crematorium & Memorial Garden (BCMG) and removed six rolls of chain-link fencing material which were stored therein awaiting completion of the fencing of the car park attached to the crematorium.

Dear Editor, I just finished reading about the soldiers who were injured 16 years ago in the explosion at Camp Groomes on the Soesdyke Highway and who are still awaiting compensation.

Dear Editor, The Guyana Sugar Corporation Inc (GuySuCo) would like to respond to Mr Seepaul Narine’s letters which were published in the Stabroek News on June 23 titled ‘GAWU is not a service provider to GuySuCo’ and in the Kaieteur News on June 24 captioned, ‘GuySuCo is a wolf in sheep’s clothing’.

Dear Editor, Any Guyanese President’s most sacred duty is to safeguard the Constitution of the Cooperative Republic. 

Dear Editor, The judiciary is an extremely important arm of the government.

Dear Editor, The government, and perhaps the population at large, seems to rest all of the country’s hopes and aspirations for wealth creation and national development on oil (and gas) that is expected to come on stream three years hence.

Dear Editor, This is one of GHK’s many letters I really enjoy.

The desire for progress is something intrinsic to human beings, both at the individual level and collectively speaking.

Dear Editor, I wish to refer to an article titled, ‘Cap on Ministers’ housing allowance was increased to $500,000 in 2015’ in your issue of June 27.

Dear Editor, The Guyana Post Office Corporation wishes to respond to Mr Mohamed Khan’s letter published in the June 23, 2017, edition of the Stabroek News, captioned, ‘Express package has not arrived.’

Dear Editor, I wish to respond to a letter by the Region 5 REO, Mr Ovid Morrison, published on June 16, 2017 in the Stabroek News, captioned ‘Once budget is approved REO does not have to go to council to ratify every project execution.’

Dear Editor, The flooding in Guyana is not only caused by heavy rainfall but by human negligence both of the NDCs and those responsible for drainage and irrigation.

Dear Editor, I was preparing to comment on the previous day’s housing allowance headline when I read on Wednesday that the “$500,000 maximum house allowance applies only for ministers from out of town” (SN June 28). 

Dear Editor, The Executive Director of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) recently called for a “rethinking [of] the economic model and [the] implementing [of] a new paradigm for the region that contributes to putting an end economic, social and environmental inequalities and moving towards sustainable development.”

There are several disturbing things that the current rainy season has forced into the spotlight.
