Dear Editor, The NDIA wishes to respond to an article that was published in the Kaieteur News titled “Corruption stinks at the Ministry of Agriculture” dated March 5, 2024.
Dear Editor, Was the razing of the iconic main concrete pavilion and Club House at the Mackenzie Sports Club (MSC) in Linden in December last year a Christmas gift to develop it into a ‘multipurpose’ facility, as was announced first when the Government sought the blessings of the MSC’s Committee of Management to plough funds towards this being one of three sports centres in Guyana in 2020?
Dear Editor Drama continues in the land. From the called off teachers’ strike to now another elections imbroglio, not national, but a credit union, with claims and allegations of illegalities; to the continued occupation of a seat in parliament, when such occupation ended, based on a lady’s/gentlemen’s agreement, which forged the occupation of the seat.
Dear Editor, The Ministry of Agriculture recently introduced a new variety of rice in Black Bush Polder, East Berbice Corentyne, which has been hailed as a triumph.
Dear Editor, Guyana’s public sector workers have all secured pay increases higher than inflation since Irfaan Ali was elected President in 2020; hence the boast by President Lula that 80% of Brazil’s unionized workers had secured the same through collective bargaining agreements rings a bit hollow in Guyana’s context.
Dear Editor, I am writing to express my concern about the seemingly inconsistent application of zoning regulations for service vehicles registered with “B” plates.
Dear Editor, Former President Ramotar has been writing and appearing in social media frequently.
As the world celebrates International Women’s Day tomorrow, 113 years after the first global commemoration, which was held on a different day (March 19), it remains more than a little concerning to note that gender parity – the term given to the statistical measurement of relative equality between men and women, including access to resources – is still some 130 years away.
Dear Editor, Reading our newspapers to keep abreast of what is happening in Guyana, I was jarred by the headline in the Letters section of Kaieteur News of Today, Monday 4th March; 2024: “Pres Ali, a man from a poor background has the temerity to tell workers demanding better, that his regime will not be bullied.”
Dear Editor, I would like to comment on two current issues in the news: The ANUG seat in Parliament should be immediately given up based on previous arrangements and it is a betrayal of all political and moral principles to hold onto that seat against the wish of that party – the most egregious example being that betrayal by Charrandass Persaud against the APNU coalition.
Dear Editor, Imagine the utter irony – it took a misstep from the Chief Education Officer which enabled the courts to intervene and bring the teachers strike to an end.
Dear Editor, Over the past few days two events took place that have once more brought to the fore the issue of race, class and politics.
Dear Editor, I do not recall who made the statement “Meekness is not weakness, but strength under control”, but it encapsulates a mark (if not the mark) of true greatness.
Dear Editor, I was flummoxed by the revelation that “The GTU on Friday submitted its proposal to court-appointed mediators outlining the terms under which the country’s teachers will end industrial action and return to the classroom” (Kaieteur News 4.03.24) as I was unaware that this was among the reliefs sought from the court by the GTU and is therefore covered by the court-ordered mediation.
Dear Editor, It is with sadness I read from Dhanraj Bhagwandin of the passing of Shri Rooplall Monar of East Coast (SN March 5).
Dear Editor, I’m writing to express how deeply disgusted I am with the recent teachers’ strike that the Guyana Teachers’ Union (GTU) organized.
Last Friday evening the Guyana Prize for Literature Awards Ceremony was held at the National Cultural Centre (NCC).
