An unfortunate and avoidable event

Dear Editor, Former President Jagdeo’s recent arrest, along with other key former government functionaries by members of the Special Organized Crime Unit (SOCU), will go down in history as one of the most unfortunate yet avoidable events in Guyana’s history.

President David Granger, as we have noted in these columns before, appears to prefer to give his ministers free reign to fully manage their own ministries, and he himself has said on occasion that he does not “micro-manage”, with reference to the affairs at City Hall and also with respect to the operations of the Guyana Police Force.

Past Guyanese women set the bar high

Dear Editor, As we observe the United Nations International Women’s Day, 2017 (March 8), under the theme ‘Be Bold for Change’, it is fitting to pay homage, as a young woman myself, to the women before me who have paved the way for this nation which is not afraid to promote women, the Guyana I have come known and love.

Response to Ram

Dear Editor, I crave your indulgence to respond to some remarks directed to me by Mr Christopher Ram in a letter published in SN on March 3, captioned, ‘Phillips misrepresented the contents of the SARA bill’.

Less talk, more action

At the beginning of this week, the Guyana Police Force held a ceremony to launch five training sessions for officers under the theme, ‘Forging Ahead with Professionalism and Intelligence-led Policing in Collaboration with Stakeholders’.
