Thursday was a bad day for democracy in Georgetown. Never mind all the earlier hype about ordinary citizens being represented by individuals as well as political parties, who were to create a new template for democratic expression in their various councils.

There was no reference to Lincoln Lewis in programme

Dear Editor, I was taken quite by surprise when I read a letter written by trade unionist Lincoln Lewis, in which he launched an unwarranted attack on the Finance Minister Winston Jordan for things the Minister allegedly said on the Walter Rodney Groundings Programme, aired on the HBTV Channel 9 on Sunday December 11, 2016 (‘It is expected that leaders in the National Assembly…’ SN, December 13).

Why not make parking lots on abandoned properties as an alternative to meters?

Dear Editor, The Chairman of the Private Sector Commission Mr Edward Boyer, makes a very valid point about the drawbacks of the current deal for the parking meter project: it is a heavy additional cost for those employers and employees who will need to park for 8 hours a day, and a major leakage of revenue from the city, with 80% of the gains going towards SmartCity and a penalty of 50% of investments and expenses per year for terminating a 20 year contract.
