Name the Commentators’ Box after Reds Perreira

Dear Editor, I fully endorse the suggestion by Oscar Ramjeet as outlined in Monday’s Stabroek News’ that the Commentators’ Box at Providence Stadium should be named in honour of Reds Perreira, that icon of cricket commentators and son of the soil, who retired at the conclusion of the four day game between Guyana and Barbados.

Barbados at mid-term

Having won the general elections of 2008, called eight months ahead of time by the Barbados Labour Party (BLP) then led by Owen Arthur, the Democratic Labour Party (DLP), led then by David Thompson (now deceased) and subsequently, by Prime Minister Freundel Stuart, managed to obtain a mere 16 seats to the BLP’s 14 in the subsequent elections of 2013.

It is expected that leaders in the National Assembly would acknowledge responsibility to the people and hold the meeting as requested by trade unions, private sector

Dear Editor, Finance Minister Winston Jordan was heard on Sunday on “Groundings” discussing the 2017 National Budget, in which he sought to get personal with me given that the trade unions and private sector have sought an audience with Leaders in this National Assembly about the budget.

Dear Editor,  Throughout 2016 we have submitted letters which, cumulatively, sought to make the case that countries thrive under certain conditions: including establishment of a just and open society; fostering an environment that generates opportunity; a strong national foundation in mathematics and science as a precondition for fabricating things; and accumulated capacities in science and private enterprise as essential weapons for gaining economic strength.

Paying lip service to sport

In the same week that Jamaica, was premiering the film ‘I Am Bolt,’ one of what, no doubt, will be, many projects celebrating the magnificent accomplishments of a native son who rose from modest circumstances to become history’s most accomplished track athlete, the National Assembly in Guyana was debating the country’s budgetary allocation for sport in 2017.

NCN hardly covers sporting activities in Berbice

Dear Editor, Recently myself and some friends were at the Albion Sports Complex ground watching a Telenec 50 overs first division match between Albion and Port Mourant when as usual on occasions like these the topic of discussion was cricket and sports generally and a friend remarked that he does not listen to and watch NCN radio and television anymore especially the sports news.
