Constant blackouts paralysing Essequibo

Dear Editor, Blackouts continue to paralyse the entire Essequibo Coast, affecting production in the various sectors, especially the rice millers who are buying farmers’ paddy and milling it for local and overseas markets; their entire operation has to close down when blackouts strike suddenly.

APNU+AFC councillors disrupted RDC meeting

Dear Editor, The APNU+AFC Council-lors of Region 3 (Essequibo Islands/West Demerara) disrupted the Statutory Meeting of the Regional Democratic Council which was held on Wednesday September 28, 2016 by singing “We shall not be removed” and by tapping the desk loudly and dancing, “Faerber must go, Jaikarran will stay”.

Proposal for site of old New Amsterdam hospital

Dear Editor, In this 50th year ‒ Golden Jubilee ‒ of the Independence of our ‘Dear Land of Guyana’, the intention is to make a tangible contribution with the submission of a proposal, which, if implemented, will contribute tremendously towards regional and national development, but most importantly it will greatly advance the move towards that social cohesion which we crave.

During an interview with HGPTV Channel 67’s Nightly News in February this year, recently convicted drug trafficker Barry Dataram alleged that the Custom Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) was corrupt and he implicated a high-ranking CANU official in the drug trade, while claiming that the official would take as much as $10 million to allow cocaine to leave the country.
