Dear Editor, I write with great concern for our “generation next” when I read the way our youths have been making the headlines in the general media.

With less than a week to go for the commemoration of our 50th anniversary of Independence, there are a few home truths that we would do well to remember.

Dear Editor, In relation to the threat by Baishanlin against the Government of Guyana reported by Demerara Waves, my reading of the ‘Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Guyana and the Government of the People’s Republic of China on the promotion and protection of investments’ (signed on March 27, 2003) is that Baishanlin has absolutely no claim against Guyana for actions against its numerous illegalities and defaults.

Dear Editor, My last letter (May 18) looked at some non-income indicators of progress; this one focuses on income/consumption and inequality.

Dear Editor, Minister Patterson’s address at the Ogle Airport renaming was significant to NATA.

Dear Editor There was much hype and fanfare about Guyana’s local government elections and now that these are over and the dust has settled, it is very clear that we are somewhat in the same dilemma as we were during the twenty years’ absence of local democracy.

Dear Editor, Since January 2016 after numerous complaints to a Mr Sheik Nizamudeen of the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company, New Amsterdam, about 339 2212 losing calls made to it, technicians came to my business to check out the connections.

Dear Editor, Most of our people on the ground hardly know about the Amerindian Act and its purpose in the hinterland, and for those who know, they may not be interested in its proposals, because they are too busy with the day-to-day activities for life’s survival.
