Unlikely that Volda Lawrence will resign

Dear Editor, Allow me the opportunity to commend the number of organisations which have publicly taken the position on the unacceptability of Volda Lawrence continuing to hold the position of Minister of Social Protection following her disturbing statements in relation to the APNU+AFC candidate Harding scandal.

Now that the APNU+AFC government has begun to release the reports of audits into state corporations and other entities, it is all the more indefensible that a 56-day hiatus in Parliamentary sittings has been set.

Dear Editor, Chief Justice Mr Ian Chang in his decision of the case of Cedric Richardson v AG and Raphael Trotman HC – DEM – CIV – CM – 10 of 2015 Demerara (the Presidential term limit case) stated: “The articles of the 1980 Constitution, having received the favourable vote of the electorate in a referendum, represent the direct voice of the people.”
