What is the definition of the Indian they wish to protect and preserve?

Dear Editor,   Dr Baytoram Ramharack, by any definition an “Indian Intellectual” (interesting book on Balram Singh Rai as pro-Indian militant), has written a letter which you published in your edition of October 28, “bemoaning,” and the word is chosen for its connotations, his perceived absence of Indo-Guyanese intellectuals pushing a racial agenda and doing so to national applause.

Suggestions for Calendar Committee

Dear Editor,   I refer to a letter by His Holiness Swami Aksharanandaji   as published in your newspaper and wish to thank him for bringing clarity to the question of the date which is in consonance with a previous letter by Pandit Balbadar for observance of Deepavali in Guyana this year which he has established to be the 10th of Novemberr as appropriate for Maha Lakshmi Puja and of course the traditional lighting of diyas.

Given all that was happening it would have been foolish for the EU to disburse more money to PPP/C gov’t

Dear Editor, Relative to your online news item, `Ramotar chides EU Ambassador’ (October 27), I truly feel embarrassed for Guyanese that former Guyana President Donald Ramotar, who clearly does not know how to read political tea leaves, hence his unceremonious and unorthodox exit from active politics, has stepped right into political cow dung in full public view.

Raising the standard of care

Guyana missed the bus, as did the rest of the Caribbean, with regard to reducing the rate of maternal mortality by three quarters as stipulated in the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), which ended this year.

Cadet Corps, People’s Militia should be reactivated soonest

Dear Editor,   I wish to compliment our Chief of Staff of the Guyana Defence Force, Brigadier Mark Phillips, for effectively conducting these military maneuvers, which are enormous positive reinforcements on the psyche on our citizens of Guyana, many of whom are distressed over the despicable claims of the Venezuelan Government, to take our lands, our peoples, and drive terror into our hearts.
