The Minister of Education, Dr Rupert Roopnaraine, in commenting on the results of the May-June 2015 CSEC results and in an apparent reference to the number of subjects written by the two students of SVN (Guyana Times, August 17), expressed his belief that students are able to cope with “that number of subjects” because the “intensity” of curriculum has been diluted.

If it were properly done, there would have been much to commend the Government of Guyana for leasing Red House at a token rental to Cheddi Jagan Research Inc (CJRI) for use as the home of the Cheddi Jagan Research Centre (CJRC).

The reluctance of the BCCI to accept the toll reduction proposed by Government in the 2015 budget which was to take effect by September 1, 2015 is indeed troubling and while I do agree that consultations could have been held with BBCI about the proposed lowering of tolls through a government subsidy prior to the budget presentation this issue raises the following concerns:
(1) The BBCI stance is a wakeup call for much greater scrutiny of any future private/public sector infrastructure projects.
