The MMU Bond and $343.8m

On November 15th, the Special Organised Crime Unit (SOCU) charged two former employees of the Ministry of Health’s Materials Management Unit (MMU) Bond at Diamond, East Bank Demerara with money laundering.

Dear Editor, The Guyana Constitution in its preamble requires us to “Forge a system of governance that promotes concerted effort and broad-based participation in national decision-making in order to develop a viable economy and a harmonious community based on democratic values, social justice, fundamental human rights, and the rule of law.” 

There must be a workable system to address the epidemic of sexual violence and rape culture whose survivors are mostly school age children

Dear Editor, As someone who has worked for over 30 years in prevention, protection and response to sexual and gender-based violence affecting directly or indirectly primary and secondary students, their parents and teachers, I would like to offer the following perspectives and recommendations in connection with not only the recent incidents involving students attending St Joseph High School but also the general situation of sexual abuse among school age children.
