Dear Editor, I have always been one of those who strongly encouraged industry and investment across our economic sectors, whether banking, animal husbandry or otherwise, as a means of increasing output, lowering costs and increasing efficiency, with greater benefits for customers.

Dear Editor, The sordid details revealed in the ‘nuisance neighbour’ court case (GT July 23), brought against a business place by a resident, unfolds in no uncertain terms a perceived tale of aided and abetted corrupt practices to which the authorities, at all levels, turned a blind eye and looked the other way, thus the neighbour became emboldened in their nuisance ways.

Dear Editor, A few days ago, the Australian government released its first so-called “well-being budget”, which used 50 different indicators to measure the quality of life of Australians by reporting on such things as: how safe Australians feel, how much time people have for recreation, their economic resilience, job satisfaction, state of mental health, and trust in institutions.

Undermining institutions

The PPP sees development in purely material terms. Progress is all about the physical things: the new highways, the bridges, the multi-story hotels, the futuristic town and so on.
