Dear Editor,
In the present circumstances in Guyana, when our economy has been so upgraded in the past few years, mostly because of our fortunate acquisition of the revenue we are reaping from the oil discoveries, I would like to caution my fellow Guyanese of the bad impact this new-found wealth can have in the way we feel, think and behave, and in our well-being.
Dear Editor,
With so much talk about changing up how we do elections in Guyana, I think it’s time we consider a more gradual approach—basically, taking democracy one teaspoon at a time.
Dear Editor,
This letter is with respect to Mr. Gokarran Sukhdeo’s letter, in Stabroek News of October 9th, 2024, titled `Vote for Trump and you are aiding and abetting ignorance and dictatorship.’
Dear Editor,
I write in response to letters headlined ‘PPP has embarked on the capture of GECOM’ and `PPP’s capture of GECOM continues unabated’ published on 31.10.’24
Dear Editor,
I refer to the letter “PPP has embarked on the capture of GECOM” (SN – 31 October, 2024).
The three authors of that letter – APNU+AFC GECOM Commissioners Vincent Alexander, Charles Corbin and Desmond Trotman and – after lobbing accusations at their counterparts from the PPP, accusations since addressed by letter writers representing that party, made the following curious claim:
“The malpractices at GECOM are a daily vindication of all of the reports of the Observer Missions as of 2006.
Dear Editor,
The SN Editorial on Diwali Day 2024 highlighted the critical need to transform the attitudes and culture which accept intimate-partner violence and other forms of gender-based violence as normal.
Dear Editor,
There are fundamental flaws in the views expressed at a recent PNCR press conference by Parliamentarian Ganesh Mahipaul, and that appeared in the Stabroek News as an article titled, “Police force has become a national security risk – Mahipaul”.
Dear Editor,
Recently, a young event promoter and popular social media personality came under fire for seeming to benefit from the Government’s recent announcement of road contracts for small contractors.
Two weeks after a troubling incident at the St Joseph High School where two boys were attacked by older students in a toilet, the Ministry of Education is still to offer some assurance to the public that it has handled this matter to the satisfaction of the aggrieved and that the incident and the manner in which it was reported to have been treated are not widely prevalent across the education system.
Dear Editor,
I was stunned by the letter in Stabroek News of the 31 October 2024 with some barefaced allegations signed by the three Commissioners, handling the “business” of the PNC (actually, I’m not sure if its APNU or any of the name changes it attempted to change its imagine/ credibility, reimagining or to improve its consistently faltering support).
